Part One
Introduction from Raw Love for your Pets

If we follow a reasonably healthy and varied diet, we know over time we provide our bodies with the required nutrients to achieve optimum health. We don’t get all the nutrients our bodies need when we eat, for example, a tuna salad for lunch. But we (hopefully) consider the nutritional value of the food we eat as we nourish ourselves over time.

The same applies to our pets.
The fact is that pellets were not born in the interest of our dogs and cats. Pellets, or kibble, came about considering human economy and convenience. In time, industry efforts to improve the offering focused on adding nutritional elements (usually from artificial sources); and condition specific supplements. Thus marketing drives punted ‘complete & balanced’ and ‘suitable for X disease/condition’ to the point where anything but is considered evil, or irresponsible at the very least.

To be able to compete, some raw food manufacturers have opted to add nutritional elements to comply with the Department’s / Act 36 minimum daily requirements. That is, to be able to claim ‘complete meal’ status. We have deliberately opted not to do so, primarily because:
  • We do not entirely agree with the minimum daily values set by Act 36, and feel crucial components are overlooked.
  • We do not believe it is beneficial to our pets to add inorganic mineral and other components to attain levels (which we question in the first place).
  • Should we obtain ‘complete meal’ status, we cannot adjust our recipes to add seasonal components, such as blackberries & pomegranate, when these are available.
Instead, we did a lot of research to keep abreast of developments in the ever evolving raw pet food industry. And focused our efforts on optimising nutrient absorption and managing unfriendly bacteria levels. READ MORE

Just as we have to weigh what we eat against what our bodies need, we need to consider our pets’ nutritional requirements when we feed them raw, real food. Here are some points to note:
  • Variety is key, e.g. ensure you feed a variety of meats, don’t stick to chicken only because it’s the cheapest.
  • Ensure you include raw, meaty bones – an important element to add when your dogs are on a raw diet.
  • Ensure you add food containing Omega 3 (fresh fish is best).

    ALTERNATIVE HEALING & BLOG DISCLAIMER
Alternative healing articles and any other advice featured in this blog do not claim to replace any conventional veterinary treatment. This is an educational blog for Beagle owners to read about alternative options that we as Beagle owners have tried ourselves and seen positive outcomes. We do not post anything we have not experienced positively and will never endorse anything in which we do not believe through positive experience.

Kinesiology and other healing modalities do not diagnose, cure or prescribe, as these activities are the prerogative of veterinarians. Kinesiology may provide a different, energy-based approach to allergy support, and potentially allow for a reduction in the use of corticosteroids. As a kinesiologist, I believe that allergies, just like other ailments, may have an emotional and/or mental aspect which is worth addressing. As such, this modality represents a valid complementary therapy to veterinary care.
